El rol del autoconocimiento en la toma de decisiones sexuales de los adolescentes

Adolescence is a complex stage both for those going through it and for those supporting them; it is filled with physical, social, and psychological changes that are difficult to understand and manage, as this is when identity is formed and the exploration of sexuality begins. During this period, sexuality represents a fundamental dimension of development, as it influences both the young person’s overall well-being and the decisions they make regarding their body, their relationships, and their intimacy. The overall objective of this research was to understand the relationship between the perception of self-knowledge and sexual decision-making among adolescents in the Aburrá Valley between the ages 14 and 17, in order to identify psychological factors that promote or hinder the development of a conscious sexuality. A qualitative study with a phenomenological design was conducted, involving 18 adolescents between the ages of 14 and 17 years of age, residing in the Aburrá Valley. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews aimed at exploring perceptions of self-knowledge, psychological and social challenges, and the relationship between selfknowledge and sexual decision-making. The results show that the participants have an initial sense of self-awareness. Also, a relationship was identified between self-awareness and sexual decision-making, as adolescents who are clearer about their values, emotions, and boundaries tend to make more consistent decisions.
