Casallas Rojas, Fabián AndrésAsesor: Vargas Nieto, Juan Camilo

The experiential avoidance is a mechanism that is in various clinical disorders, its function is associated with the maintenance of psychological distress. In accordance with this, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) seeks to expand the behavioral repertoire of patients, increasing their psychological flexibility. In this study, a brief ACT intervention protocol was applied, in order to evaluate the effect of the treatment on emotional variables (anxiety and depression) and variables of psychological processes (psychological flexibility, cognitive fusion and values), a design of single case AB was used with one-month follow-up, with a patient hospitalized in a mental health institution. The results that we found indicate that the application of this treatment model could be related to the decrease in emotional symptoms and the reduction in the degree of experiential avoidance and cognitive fusion. The limitations of this study are also discussed.
