Resumen
The high prevalence of oral diseases in Colombia, especially among children, highlights the need for effective prevention strategies. Oral health education is crucial in this regard, and educational booklets are presented as a key tool for conveying information clearly and concisely. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the "Smiling Chameleon Takes Care of Your Teeth" strategy in children aged 6 to 11 years from the José Reinel Cerquera Educational Institution in Palermo, Huila, focusing on their knowledge and attitudes towards oral hygiene. The study design is an experimental community trial, which allowed for the assessment of the strategy's impact on improving oral hygiene habits in this population. It was evidenced that the strategy had a positive impact on the children's knowledge and attitudes towards oral hygiene, with significant increases observed in knowledge about the importance of tooth brushing, caries prevention, and the use of dental floss, as well as an improvement in attitudes towards oral care and visits to the dentist.
