Resumen
Periodontal disease and cardiovascular diseases are prevalent conditions with a significant impact on public health. Various studies suggest a relationship between both diseases, primarily mediated by chronic inflammation. Objective: Determine the relationship between periodontal disease and cardiovascular diseases according to the literature review. 2018-2024 Materials and methods: A systematic review of the literature was conducted following the PRISMA method, including studies published between 2018 and 2024 in databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Observational studies and clinical trials explring inflammatory mechanisms and the impact of periodontal bacteria on cardiovascular health were selected, applying previously defined inclusion and exclusion criteria.
