Resumen
This research aimed to explore the relationship between social media use and the levels of anxiety, depression, and stress among adolescents from a high school in Santa Marta. A quantitative approach was used, with a non-experimental, correlational design. The sample consisted of 70 students from secondary school, selected through convenience sampling. Validated tools were applied for data collection, including the Beck Depression Inventory (BDIII), the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and a survey on social media usage. Findings showed that most students spend between one and three hours a day on social media, with TikTok being the most frequently used platform. A considerable number of students reported moderate levels of anxiety and stress, as well as mild to severe depressive symptoms. Statistically significant correlations were found between the time spent on social media and mental health indicators. The results suggest that high social media use may be linked to increased emotional difficulties among adolescents, underlining the need for preventive strategies within educational and family contexts.
