Resumen
Objective: To evaluate possible ocular surface alterations related to the duration of diabetes mellitus (DM). Methodology: The sample consisted of 34 patients (68 eyes as the study unit), divided into two groups: 14 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of DM (28 eyes) and a control group (40 eyes). BUT tests and lissamine green and fluorescein staining were performed. Results: There was a higher prevalence of positive staining in the diabetic group compared to the control group, and a more stable tear break-up time (BUT) was found in the DM group. However, no significant correlation was found between the duration of diabetes and ocular surface alterations.
