Resumen

The present research aims to understand the influence of social networks on the self-esteem of adolescent women in the municipalities of Roldanillo and Zarzal in the department of Valle del Cauca. In response to the study’s intentions, adolescents' perceptions of beauty standards promoted on social networks were identified, as well as the positive and negative effects that arise from interaction on social networks. The theoretical framework is determined by topics such as selfesteem and its development process, the needs proposed by Maslow, emphasizing esteem and appreciation, the developmental stage of adolescence and, finally, social networks. The methodology used is qualitative with a phenomenological method, in which as an instrument was built a semi-structured interview that proposed questions about self-esteem, social networks and adolescence, it was applied to six young teenager between fourteen and eighteen years old, whose participation was intentional and voluntary, for which use was made of the respective informed consent. The results indicated that social networks do not affect the self-esteem of the participating in contrast, the selected content and type of interactions are chosen according to favorable valuation standards and tracking of health and sports habits that contribute to their well-being.
