Resumen
The present monograph, titled The Chancay Mega-Port: Implications for Colombia's Ports and Foreign Trade, analyzes the effects on Colombian port and commercial dynamics resulting from the start of operations of the port of Chancay, located in Peru. This study has an exploratory and descriptive focus, supported by primary and secondary sources, including interviews and documents that allow for the identification of the opportunities and threats that may arise from the Chancay port. The results of this research conclude that the port of Chancay is consolidated as a hub in the region due to its infrastructure, draft, and automation. These elements give it an advantage over ports like Buenaventura, Cartagena, and Barranquilla. However, its development also presents opportunities for Colombia and its ports to expand their markets, especially with Asia. In conclusion, it is determined that the port of Chancay, rather than a threat, can boost and transform the region for better cooperation and competitiveness in port systems.
