Resumen
Air pollution is one of the most serious environmental and public health issues worldwide. In cities like Bogotá, pollutant levels have repeatedly exceeded the limits recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). This is mainly due to population growth, the increase in the vehicle fleet, and the city’s geographical conditions that limit pollutant dispersion. Among the most concerning substances are fine and coarse particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and tropospheric ozone (O3), as they are directly linked to respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and acute respiratory infections. In Bogotá, the most vulnerable groups include children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions, highlighting the urgency of studying the behavior of these pollutants in areas with intense industrial activity.
