Resumen

This article presents the results of a Road Safety Audit (RSA) conducted on the Ansermanuevo–Toro section of National Route 23, between kilometers 114+000 and 123+000, in Valle del Cauca, Colombia. The aim was to evaluate road infrastructure and operation in order to identify critical risk points and propose measures to improve user safety. The methodology was structured into four phases: planning, exploration, execution, and evaluation. Checklists, field inspections, photographic records, and accident data analysis were applied. Based on the collected information, risk matrices and a georeferenced risk map were developed, allowing the classification and prioritization of findings. The results indicate that while some segments maintain acceptable conditions, others exhibit severe deficiencies: large potholes, “alligator cracking,” progressive shoulder deterioration, clogged ditches, and reduced visibility due to vegetation. These conditions increase the vulnerability of road users, particularly motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians. It is concluded that the lack of routine maintenance and preventive risk management has accelerated the deterioration of the corridor. Corrective interventions are recommended including pavement rehabilitation, ditch cleaning, vegetation control, and reinforcement of road signage to improve road safety and reduce crash occurrence.
