Resumen
The road safety audit conducted on the section of the Pereira-Armenia highway, spanning from kilometer 9,000 to kilometer 15,000, enabled the identification and study of the main risk factors linked to infrastructure, the environment, and user behavior. Through accident assessments, risk matrix analysis, and on-site inspections, deficiencies in drainage, signage, and demarcation were identified, as well as problematic areas with a high accident rate. The findings corroborate the direct connection between the physical condition of the road and the occurrence of accidents, which is consistent with previous studies emphasizing the importance of preventive audits to reduce risks. It is suggested that road management programs and corrective engineering measures be implemented to optimize operational safety, traffic congestion, and visibility. Finally, new lines of research are suggested, focusing on studying the effect of smart technologies and how drivers react to road interventions.
