Experiencias de vida en la política de mujeres que son madres en las ciudades de Pereira y Cali

Resumen

This study analyzes the life experiences of six political women who are mothers, located in Pereira and Cali, aiming to understand how they perceive and live their political roles, and how social, cultural, and family expectations influence their trajectories. Using a qualitative and phenomenological approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore psychological, personal, family, social, labor, and spiritual dimensions. Findings reveal that motherhood, far from being a limitation, becomes a source of sensitivity, discipline, and service-oriented leadership. Participants reframe their maternal role as an active political identity, confronting stereotypes, social pressures, and patriarchal structures that still shape female participation in decision-making spaces. Self-esteem, resilience, and spirituality emerge as emotional pillars sustaining their leadership, while family support and time management are essential to balance their multiple responsibilities. Female leadership is configured as an ethical, empathetic, and transformative practice focused on collective well-being. These women do not merely exercise power— they humanize it—demonstrating that it is possible to combine motherhood with political leadership from a sensitive, critical, and equity-driven perspective. This study contributes to the understanding of female subjectivation processes in political and cultural contexts and offers a comprehensive view of the link between motherhood, identity, and political participation.
