Resumen
Dry eye syndrome (DES) not only affects the ocular surface; its course is intertwined with mood, sleep, and daily functioning. Evidence from the last two decades is extensive but scattered and heterogeneous, making it difficult to translate findings into coherent clinical decisions for optometric and ophthalmological practice. Objective. To identify the relationship between DES, quality of life, and mental health in those who suffer from it through a narrative literature review of the last 20 years. Search method. A systematic search was conducted in MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, Scopus, PsycINFO, CINAHL, SciELO, and LILACS (2005–2025), using controlled terms (MeSH/Emtree/DeCS) and free text combined with Boolean operators.
