Resumen
Down syndrome, or Trisomy 21, refers to a chromosomal genetic disorder, now known as a "condition," resulting from a genetic alteration with significant prevalence worldwide. Given the incidence of live births with Down syndrome, approaches have been developed to account for it based on statistical data. The Ibero-American Down 21 Foundation, in its study "Estimation of the number of people with Down syndrome in Europe" conducted on November 21, 2020, in Spain, estimated the total number of people with Down syndrome to date, based on the population registered in databases (Ibero-American Down 21 Foundation, 2018).
