Resumen

In the treatment of wastewater, it is important to look for different alternatives that provide value to the products generated, in order to seek economic benefits apart from the environmental benefit that is already being provided. The production of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) is considered as a platform for the development of biorefinery, which consists of combining technologies necessary to interrelate the biological raw material (biomass), with intermediate industrial processes and final products (Kamm 2004). In this case, it is followed by a two-phase anaerobic digestion process that is carried out in biological reactors.
