Seguimiento a la implementación del PGIRS en el municipio de Santa Rosa de Viterbo Boyacá
Waste management is one of the environmental and social challenges facing municipalities, particularly in areas where population growth, economic growth, and consumer habits are driving continued growth in waste production. In the municipality of Santa Rosa de Viterbo, Boyacá, the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan (IGRMS) was monitored to validate its efficiency, identify progress and challenges, and propose strengthening strategies for environmental, social, and economic improvement. A quantitative methodology was used, structured in three phases: document review of the IIGRMS, current regulations, monitoring, data collection, and processing of the information obtained for analysis. The results showed that the municipality satisfactorily complies with the basic processes of collection, transportation, and proper disposal at the Tunja Boyacá sanitary landfill called Pirgua, in addition to achieving 100% urban collection coverage. However, the assessment revealed significant weaknesses in rural areas regarding the management of collection services and the absence of a specific area for the treatment of construction and demolition waste. It is concluded that the PGIRS aims to strengthen collection in rural areas and conduct ongoing awareness campaigns to optimize sorting at source and establish agreements with recycling companies to minimize the amount of waste sent to landfills, thus contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 11, and 13.
