Resumen

This project describes the design of a Drinking Water Treatment System (DWTS) for industrial and domestic use in a brick manufacturing industry, using the Soacha River as the catchment source. The need for this system arises because, due to multiple discharges (effluents), this water body exhibits high physicochemical and microbiological contamination. To overcome the limitations of conventional systems and avoid the generation of chemical sludge, an ecological engineering approach based on a multiple-barrier train was adopted. The system, sized for a design flow rate of 1.52 L/s, integrates a floating intake, a desander, a tray aerator, a subsurface flow constructed wetland (SSFCW), multimedia filtration, and a chlorination unit. Based on the water characterization established in the design scenario, it was determined that this system guarantees optimal efficiencies in pollutant removal, ensuring compliance with the quality standards required by Resolution 2115 of 2007 for human consumption. The design results and cost analysis demonstrate that this technological alternative is technically and economically viable for supplying the industry, promoting water resilience.
