COURSE ON ORAL HEALTH FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD CAREGIVERS: PILOT TEST. BOGOTÁ, 2022-2023.

Resumen
BACKGROUND: The ENSAB IV reports that children of one, three and five years of age have an average of 2.69 teeth with visible changes in the enamel, and the ceo index is 1.62, confirming that oral health problems in early childhood are a serious public health problem in Colombia. Therefore, it is important to empower caregivers for children's oral health. OBJECTIVE: design, implementation and evaluation using the PBL methodology of a hybrid oral health course, aimed at early childhood caregivers. METHOD: Initially, a diagnostic survey was carried out on caregivers from early childhood educational institutions, to determine the main themes. The course with hybrid and synchronous methodology was designed in a virtual classroom (Moodle) and was divided into three modules: first: importance of the role of the caregiver and oral self-examination; second: main oral diseases of childhood; third: preventive strategies at home and educational institutions. The evaluation included the resolution of a problem case in oral health; finally, a course satisfaction survey was applied. RESULTS: in total 56 caregivers participated in the three theoretical modules, 19 of them participated in the virtual course and 37 in the face-to-face course. Five problem cases were received that were satisfactorily resolved and 34 of the participants evaluated the course stating that the tools and topics used were very appropriate, expressing that it was a didactic and practical course. They suggested improving the language. CONCLUSION: The experience highlighted the importance of continuing to implement this type of learning environments to train and inform caregivers in early childhood oral health care.
