Resumen
Immigrant university students require moving from their place of origin to a new place of residence. This transition comprises a temporal space and a territorial change, where interpersonal and environmental aspects intervene that can lead to a transition being healthy or unfavorable. Objective: To describe the transition of immigrant students to the Nursing program of the University of Applied and Environmental Sciences U.D.C.A. according to Afaf Meleis' theory of transitions. Methodology: A descriptive research with a qualitative approach was carried out, the information was collected through a semi-structured interview based on the properties of the transitions proposed by the theory of Afaf Meleis. This was applied to immigrant students from the nursing program of the University of Applied and Environmental Sciences U.D.C.A. and the detailed and in-depth description of the cases was made using the Atlas ti 7.5 software. Results: Simultaneous transitions were found: situational and developmental, most of which are aware of and have a high level of commitment to the transition, as well as experiencing multiple changes due to the migratory process that have had an impact on their well-being and quality of life. The categories of maturity independence, socialization, learning to manage their economy, autonomy and responsibility emerged. Conclusion: Immigrant university students from the nursing program of the University of Applied and Environmental Sciences U.D.C.A. They initially present an unhealthy transition since they adopt behaviors such as increased alcohol consumption and poor eating habits.
