La enseñanza del inglés como herramienta para la educación en derechos humanos: una experiencia pedagógica en territorios de posconflicto en Colombia

Pereira Alejo, Dana Valentina · Romero Soler, MateoAsesor: Quintero Mejía, Marieta

This study examines the implementation of an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) curriculum based on a human rights approach in rural post-conflict territories in Colombia. Framed within a qualitative methodology and Participatory Action Research (PAR), the project was developed through the Cultural English program using virtual environments mediated by ICT tools such as Google Meet and WhatsApp. The intervention involved children and adolescents from regions such as Arauca, Norte de Santander, Meta, and Guaviare, where armed conflict, limited access to education, and structural inequalities affect learning processes. Through Cultural English, language instruction was integrated with human rights education, fostering intercultural understanding, critical reflection, and active participation. Despite challenges such as connectivity issues and fluctuating engagement, students showed progress in basic linguistic skills. More importantly, English became a tool for expressing experiences, strengthening identity, and building a sense of belonging, highlighting the potential of context-sensitive EFL teaching in marginalized communities.
