Motorcycle riding while using a mobile phone can cause driver distraction, as it requires the rider to momentarily take their eyes off the road to check navigation instructions. In response to this issue, this work aimed to design and implement a Head-Up Display (HUD) module adaptable to a motorcycle helmet, capable of displaying simplified navigation information within the user's field of view. The system was developed through the selection of its electronic, optical, and mechanical components; the implementation of a mobile application to capture notifications generated by Google Maps; the establishment of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication with an ESP32-C3 microcontroller; and the design of a printed circuit board, an external enclosure, and an internal mount for the transparent OLED display. As a result, a functional prototype was developed capable of receiving and displaying information related to distance, travel time, and the main navigation instruction. Controlled tests verified the BLE connection, the updating of navigation instructions, the correspondence between the information received from the mobile phone and that displayed by the prototype, and the physical integration of the system into the helmet. It was also verified that the mobile phone could simultaneously maintain a connection with a Bluetooth intercom, allowing visual and auditory assistance to be combined. The measured power consumption ranged from 61 mA to 80.5 mA, with an estimated battery life of approximately 37.3 hours under the highest-consumption scenario, considering an overall efficiency factor of 75%. The results demonstrate the technical feasibility of the proposed concept as a prototype. Areas for improvement were identified regarding visual focusing, automatic reconnection, mechanical mounting, and flexible cable protection.
