Fostering Gender Awareness and Promoting Critical Consciousness Through No One Will See Me Cry in a B1 Language Classroom
This qualitative study describes the implementation of critical literacy activities in a B1 English course at the language center of Nex idioms (It should be noted that this is a pseudonym). The general purpose is to foster critical literacy through the novel No One Will See Me Cry by Cristina Rivera Garza, aiming to promote both critical and gender awareness among students in a language center in Medellín. Drawing on Freire’s ideas (1970), this study emphasizes the ability to question, analyze, and reflect on powerful ideologies. Critical literacy improves language learning by transforming classrooms into spaces of critical engagement.
