Integrating generative artificial intelligence tools to support english speaking tasks among EFL university students
This paper reports an action research extension project on the integration of GenAI tools in the context of learning English as a Foreign language. The project aimed to reflect on the implementation of GenAI as a means to support speaking skills on students of an English course at the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira [UTP], following a task-based approach. Data were collected through field diaries, students’ and teachers’ artifacts, surveys, and interviews . The impact revealed insights from three key perspectives: the scenario, students, and teachers in development. Collectively, these perspectives highlight that GenAI serves as a valuable and innovative pedagogical tool in an academic setting, with the potential to enhance students' speaking abilities and to foster the professional growth of pre-service teachers.
