Light sheet hologram encoding using binary amplitude modulation with complex loss optimization
We demonstrate, for the first time to our knowledge, the encoding and reconstruction of high-quality holographic light sheets using binary amplitude modulation. This is achieved using an optimization scheme with a complexvalued loss function that evaluates the error at a single plane to optimize the reconstruction of a continuous three-dimensional light field. The method is validated numerically and experimentally, demonstrating enhanced reconstruction quality across the entire light sheet compared to direct binarization. We further demonstrate that optimized binary light sheet holograms adequately reproduce both bidimensional and multiplane scenes within a wide range of distances from the hologram plane. These results demonstrate the viability of binary amplitude modulators for reproducing high-complexity structured light fields, lowering the barrier to entry for a broad range of applications.
