Resumen
The quenching and partitioning (Q&P) heat treatment has enabled the development of Q&P steels, which belong to the third generation of advanced high-strength steels (AHSS). These steels take advantage of the transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) phenomenon. Q&P steels combine the properties of previous steel generations to create materials with excellent mechanical strength and formability without requiring high proportions of alloying elements. This research aims to develop steels suitable for the Q&P heat treatment focused on the manufacturing of cast parts. Three different steel alloys with medium to high carbon content and silicon/manganese additions were studied. The resulting microstructures consist of martensite, bainite, and retained austenite, showing mechanical performance comparable to homogenized wrought steels.
