A transformational leadership statement
Increasingly, higher education is incorporating reflective activities that enhance student leadership identity and professional growth. This paper presents a transformational leadership statement rooted in Daft's principles, conveyed from the perspective of two future English language teachers. It explores how personal assumptions influence leadership behaviors in educational and foreign language teaching contexts, with a focus on teacher empowerment, collaborative work, and ethical decision-making. Collaborative work within the diploma course reinforced leadership as a shared, dynamic process. Through key reflective questions, it is revealed how assumptions inform practice and require ongoing examination. A practical empowerment plan for schools is proposed, including shared leadership teams and professional learning communities. In this way, this transformational leadership statement establishes the foundation for connecting theory, reflection, and future professional action in educational settings.
