Education as a Space of Appearance for Democracy: An Arendtian Perspective

Resumen
The article discusses education as a space of appearance that molds political subjects for a democratic culture. It derives from qualitative documentary research using the hermeneutic method to approach the categories from primary and secondary sources subjected to content analysis. It shows that the whole exercise of citizenship is only possible to the extent that individuals enjoy freedoms for deliberation, criticism, and decision-making, breaking the paradigm of education as manufacturing. In conclusion, the subject that is educated is not an atomized being without the capacity and possibility to act and speak; therefore, education must be thought of as a space of appearance in the Arendtian sense and, as such, a shaper of political subjects capable of judgment for a democratic culture that prevents the return of any totalitarianism within democratic regimes.
