El fortalecimiento de la democracia liberal a través de la educación en la virtud

Classical political philosophy regarded virtue and human excellence as the ultimate goals of politics. However, modernity transformed this perspective, relegating virtue as an impractical and unattainable goal, and adopting personal freedom—understood as autonomy—as the guiding principle of liberalism and democracy. While initially successful, this model now faces a profound moral crisis that has undermined its foundations. Beyond structural causes such as polarization or neoliberalism, the current democratic decline reveals a loss of virtue 2 and ethical compass, leaving liberal democracies vulnerable to relativism, nihilism, and tyranny.
