Currently the pharmaceutical industry is making progress in the treatment of diseases with the use of biotechnological drugs, from substances produced by genetically modified organisms to manufacture these ones that would not normally be manufactured. Within the terms of pharmacovigilance, these new biotechnological drugs represent a challenge, since having a drug whose partial or total composition is from an animal, is subject to rejection by the patient and other types of inconveniences in use. Infliximab (IFX) corresponds to one of these biotechnological drugs; It is currently used to treat certain autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis (UC), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. It fulfills its function by antagonizing the tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interfering in the activation of complement, all in those cells that overexpress the TNF receptor such as the cells of the osteoarticular tissue. Only in Bogotá D.C., between 2010 and 2017, 292 cases of Infliximab treatment were reported; only 88 cases were reported in 2016; between these years, women had 182 reported cases, considering 62% of the total cases. The diseases for which Infliximab is used, correspond to autoimmune and osteoarticular diseases, which mainly attack populations between 47 and 66 years, without being exclusive for other age groups. This work is done to give a broader view of how pharmacovigilance and its sub-themes are behaving, with respect to the recent trend in the use of biotechnological drugs and to give a better overview of the adverse reactions and problems related to drugs expected when using the drug Infliximab (IFX)
